Up a little past six, and I've spent all the morning and half the afternoon watching Cup of Russia(everyone's calling it that again, whatever it's officially called. Must re-edit the novel to reflect this...) Early in the Ladies' short someone linked to a new Russian TV stream that worked extremely well and I'm holding out hope I can watch again tomorrow. None too soon, either; IceNetwork was really getting hard to watch. Men: My stream was unfrozen when Patrick Chan fell down, and I promptly groaned, because I knew he'd still lead, and I knew the backlash would be ugly. Really judges, why couldn't you have given Jeremy a few more points, hmmmm? Or Verner? Though personally, I blame the quad for this mess. Everyone was insisting it needed to be worth more...
Pairs: Real sad for Evora & Ladwig, but at least they've still got a shot at a medal, if they can avoid further downgrades. Also, none of the pairs so far this year are skating up to full potential. I don't think we'll have any idea who's going to win until Worlds.
Ladies: I was really glad I was able to watch most of this on a good stream. After three events of majorly underwhelming fields and Skate Canada perhaps only looking good by comparison, we had a stacked field here that delivered(except for poor unfortunate Leonova and Glebova, though I can't say the former's troubles surprised me). Four and a half points between first and eighth. Though now I just hope the free doesn't devolve into a splatfest. And Ksenia maybe claws her way back up to the podium. Possibly going to try to calculate her chances at the Finale with 4th if Mao can win in Paris; unfortunately, if Miki can't come back to win, they go down considerably. Or maybe Ashley could win? That would make up for a lot.
Ice Dance: After Katsapalov fell down, I found myself paraphrasing Scott Hamilton, "Tonight's daaance...we need ambulaaance..." Though at least then noone else fell, but really, Frederica, Massimo, when the judges have just given a Russian team 60 and it's clear they're going to be the top Russian team at least for a while, you can not then make mistakes! They might come back here, or stay ahead at the Finale, but I wonder what's going to happen come Europeans and Worlds.
